desert botanical garden

phoenix, arizona

The last of a three-part installation series, Earth is inspired by the layers of colorful strata seen in canyons and rock formations throughout Arizona. A colossal sculptural formation, Earth consists of 24 layers of wooden “strata” and more than 10,000 fresh-cut flowers.

Flowers were selected in an ombre palette of colors inspired by the desert: terra cotta, orange, sand, pink, and blush. Each color block is composed of a diverse range of flowers, combining blooms of varying sizes and textures.

Our ode to Arizona’s buttes, Earth reflects the rich sensory experience of the desert, while injecting an element of fantasy by engineering a “blooming” of the landscape.
